Adam Zampa keen to join Hundred, Oval Invincibles squad, video, fixtures, news, highlights

Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa is in talks with the Oval Invincibles to make an eleventh-hour dash to the United Kingdom to play this weekend’s Hundred final.

Sitting atop the Hundred ladder, two-time reigning champions the Invincibles have effectively booked their spot in the tournament finale having won six of their eight group-stage games. There remains a mathematical chance of the Trent Rockets leapfrogging the London-based franchise on the ladder if they demolish the Birmingham Phoenix on Thursday, but the odds are close to zero.

Rashid Khan has been the Invincibles’ equal-leading wicket-taker this season with 12 scalps at 13.66, but the Afghanistan leg-spinner departed the competition last week for national duties.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Monday, Invincibles coach Tom Moody confirmed the franchise had held discussions with Zampa over the possibility of signing him as a replacement player for a one-game cameo.

“Ideally we want Zamps,” Moody said.

“We just are working through that. He is keen to come back.

“He is familiar with this group and Surrey as well, having played in the Blast.”

Zampa represented the Invincibles during the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Hundred, taking 25 wickets at 11.44 to help the franchise win back-to-back titles. The 33-year-old was the equal-leading wicket-taker of last season’s competition, while he played four matches for Surrey in this year’s T20 Blast, snaring nine scalps at 13.22.

However, Zampa was unavailable for the majority of this year’s Hundred due to Australia’s white-ball series against South Africa, which concluded on Sunday evening.

The Invincibles will face either the Rockets or the Northern Superchargers in Sunday’s final at Lord’s.
