Broc Feeney is reluctant to swing the changes on his race start technique, with the Repco Sprint Cup winner-elect admitting he “threw a race win away” in Ipswich.
The Triple Eight Race Engineering driver was beaten home to Race 24 victory by teammate Will Brown, having lost the lead through the stop after serving a penalty.
Feeney was adjudged to have jumped the start, and was hit with a five-second penalty.

The #88 Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet driver served the penalty during his stop, and emerged behind Brown.
Try as he might, Feeney was unable to defeat his teammate, who claimed his first win since March’s Grand Prix in Melbourne.
“Will was obviously really fast in that race. Both cars had a lot of speed today, so it’s great to get two wins for the team,” Feeney told media after the race.
“I’m obviously disappointed because I probably threw a race win away there, but overall it’s still a great day for the team, so plenty to be happy about.c
“From my side, I’ll just go back and understand what went wrong, what I can do better, and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
Feeney questioned the penalty over team radio during the race, his team insisted he had crept forward: “I’m sure we’ll just go back and look at it and see if I did anything different. I didn’t feel it in the car, hence, I questioned [engineer Martin Short] a few times.
“They said, ‘Look, we’ve seen on TV you crept a smidge, but that’s enough to get a penalty’. So anyway, just tried to get on with it, drive as fast as I could. We were able to pull a bit of a gap on the rest, but Will was still really quick.”
All told, Feeney was frustrated to be penalised, but wasn’t keen to changing his methods given his strong launches of late: “I haven’t seen the vision, but yeah, the team told me I moved, so I moved.

“In the car I didn’t feel anything, so I was surprised when I first heard it… I moved, so I got a penalty.
“It’s hard because I’ve never, ever had that in my whole career. So, a first for me today. I’ll just go and learn from it and if I need to change something in how I do my starts, I’ll do that.
“I’ve had probably 110 Supercar starts and a lot more in other categories. My starts have been really good lately. It’s something I’ve really focused on, it’s disappointing to get a penalty.
“But I don’t want to change everything and ruin my starts either. So it’ll be a minor tweak.”
