Scott Boland has become the tenth Australian to take a hat-trick in men’s Tests, achieving the rare feat on day three of the Frank Worrell Trophy series finale at Kingston’s Sabina Park.
The Victorian seamer removed Justin Greaves, Shamar Joseph and Jomel Warrican in successive deliveries to become the first Australian to take a men’s Test hat-trick since Peter Siddle’s unforgettable spell at the Gabba in 2010.
The West Indies were 6-26 in the 14th over when the probing Boland found the outside edge of all-rounder Justin Greaves, departing for a team-high 11 after Beau Webster swallowed a regulation chance at second slip.

The next delivery, Australian captain Pat Cummins called for a review after Boland trapped bowler Shamar Joseph on the pads, with the on-field decision overturned when three red lights appeared on ball-tracking technology.
Boland’s hat-trick delivery was an absolute seed that nipped through the gate and bowled rival vice-captain Jomel Warrican for a golden duck, sending his teammates into a frenzy. But the subdued and humble bowler celebrated the dismissal like any other wicket — with a smile and a raised finger.

“I was a bit nervous bowling that last one,” Boland laughed after the match.
“It’s an amazing feeling.
“I was just trying to concentrate on putting balls in good areas.”
The 36-year-old finished with figures of 3-2 from two overs, with the West Indies rolled for 27, the second-lowest team total in Test history, while fellow quick Mitchell Starc claimed a career-best 6-9.
“He’s amazing, isn’t he?” Starc said of Boland during the post-match presentation.
“He would have played so many more Test matches in another team, but every time he comes in, he’s on the money.
“He’s never far from the perfect length as soon as he comes in. He’s preparing all the time to play. This week he got his opportunity and showed what a wonderful Test bowler he is.”
Australian captain Pat Cummins continued: “That was great. He’s had a couple of moments when he gets on a roll.
“Today was three classic Scotty Boland wickets, all right at the stumps, or not far away.
“Really happy for him, he’s spent a lot of time running drinks in the past year or two when the other three guys are fit, but we know he’s quality when he does come in.”

Australia ultimately defeated the West Indies by 176 runs to seal a 3-0 series whitewash.
“I’ve never been involved in a game where we bowled out a team out for 27,” Boland continued.
“Unbelievable.”
In 14 Tests, Boland has taken 62 wickets at 16.53 — no cricketer in the last century has more Test scalps at a lower average.
